Danilo gives the third consecutive victory in the home race for Ducati, resisting Marquez in a very fierce final.
Dovizioso is third ahead of Rins and is now at -12 from Marc. Valentino falls to Arrabbiata 2 after a few laps.
Two birds with one stone.
This could be the balance of the Mugello weekend for Danilo Petrucci: the rider from Terni conquered his first MotoGP victory in the Italian GP and showed Ducati to deserve full marks for the official team for the next season, with lots of tears of joy on the top step of the podium.
A success that came at the end of a whole contest with the knife between the teeth, among other things battling with opponents of a certain level, because we are talking about the three main contenders for the title: Marc Marquez, his partner Andrea Dovizioso and Alex Rins.
"Petrux" commanded the race for a long time, especially in the second part, and in the final he didn't back out when the game got tough.
The maneuver that earned the success came just on the last lap, when Marquez tried to put both Ducats outside the San Donato, finishing wide.
At that point Dovizioso crossed, but it was Danilo himself who found the hole to slip them both inside.
On the last lap the tension could be cut with a knife, with Petrucci hounded by Marquez.
The Italian, however, was very good at closing every gap in the race and was at the finish line with a 43-thousandth advantage over the Spaniard, giving Ducati the third consecutive victory in the home race.
For the Red, however, the final result is not completely positive, because in the last lap Dovizioso sold second place to Marquez and therefore in the world championship standings he is now 12 points behind the Spaniard from Honda, who at least today however has learned of not necessarily be unbeatable, having to deal with an "alla Marquez" treatment of his opponents in the first laps.
In the World Championship now also Petrucci makes a good leap, fourth at 82 points, at 35 points from Marquez, but only 6 from the third place of Alex Rins, today author of a race really to be framed, because he was able to go back from the 13th placed on the grid up to the very first positions in just a few steps, before closing fourth ahead of an amazing Takaaki Nakagami.
Only the first sixth of the Yamaha, which was that of Maverick Vinales, followed by the Ducati of the test driver Michele Pirro and the Honda of Cal Crutchlow.
Top 10 also for KTM thanks to Pol Espargaro's ninth place, while Fabio Quartararo's race was decidedly disappointing, only tenth with Yamaha Petronas after being great protagonist yesterday in qualifying with the second time.
Immediately out of the top 10 Aprilia with Aleix Espargaro, while it was another Sunday to forget for Jorge Lorenzo: the Majorcan finished 13th, more than 20 "behind the winner.

Andrea Iannone and Johann Zarco are even worse off, respectively 15th and 17th. If nothing else, the Vasto pilot took home a little point.
Too bad for Pecco Bagnaia, who was competing in his best race in MotoGP and was in the best train in seventh position. However, the Ducati Pramac driver fell at Bucine during the 12th lap, sending his dreams of glory into smoke.
The weekend started badly ended even worse for Valentino Rossi: the "Doctor" had a first contact with Joan Mir who had forced him to an excursion off the track, ending up in the back of the group.
His race however ended definitively on the eighth lap, when he lost the front to Arrabbiata 2, fortunately getting up again without consequences. For him, however, the world dream almost certainly ends here.
The list of retreats also includes Franco Morbidelli.
The Yamaha Petronas driver did not start as he would have hoped from the second row and was swallowed by the group. The yield then came on the sixth lap for a fall.
Among the main protagonists, ko also Jack Miller: the Australian was in the top 5 8 laps from the end and had just scored the fastest lap, when he lost the front of his Ducati to the first chicane.
A cancellation for the bearer of the Pramac Racing, who seems to be able to still say his in the fight for the podium.
"It's great, but I haven't realized yet that I've won." Finally the "mess" is over and the great day of Danilo Petrucci has arrived, then just in a dreamlike way: at Mugello and riding a Ducati, with all the public present on the stands and on the hills of the Tuscan track in raptures for the his first victory in MotoGP.
A success that "Petrux" had to build by competing with champions of the caliber of Marc Marquez and boxer Andrea Dovizioso, who had his climax on the last lap, when Danilo managed to cross the path of both at San Donated after being attacked.
At that point he had to contain the Spanish of the Honda until the final sprint, then it was just joy and a liberating cry on the podium for a result that could also sanction his renewal with the Borgo Panigale House.
"It was strange, because the race was easier than expected at the end. I saw that the pace was not impressive, so I told myself that I had to try going ahead to skim the group a bit. without pushing too hard, otherwise I knew I would last five laps, even if I didn't feel tired, I went ahead 13 laps from the end and I wanted to start pushing at 7 from the end, then they became 5 and then 3. At that point I knew that if they hadn't attacked me yet it was because they would have done it in the end, "said Petrucci.
"It was Ducati's merit if I arrived in MotoGP. I was racing in the Superstock in 2011 and Ducati was developing the Panigale. They asked me to try this bike and in the first test I did very well, so they also called me to make others. I paid for the gas to come and do these tests, but it was Valentino's years and it even happened to share the track with him and it was a great motivation, but I put myself on display and this allowed me to get in MotoGP , although with the Ioda, which was an absurd bike, because we had the engine of the series. Despite everything, Ducati gave me the opportunity to try its MotoGP: there was an approach, but then they chose Iannone ".
